To change a car battery, you will need the following tools: a socket wrench, pliers, and a new battery.
- Locate the battery in your car. It is usually found in the engine compartment, near the front of the vehicle.
- Turn off the car and remove the key from the ignition.
- Locate the negative cable, which is typically black and has a minus (-) sign on it. Use the socket wrench to loosen the bolt that holds the cable onto the negative terminal of the battery. Carefully remove the cable from the terminal.
- Locate the positive cable, which is typically red and has a plus (+) sign on it. Use the socket wrench to loosen the bolt that holds the cable onto the positive terminal of the battery. Carefully remove the cable from the terminal.
- Carefully remove the battery from its compartment.
- Clean the battery terminals and the surrounding area with a wire brush or baking soda and water to remove any corrosion.
- Place the new battery in the compartment and reattach the positive and negative cables to the corresponding terminals. Tighten the bolts securely with the socket wrench.
- Start the car and let it run for a few minutes to ensure that the battery is working properly.
- Before closing the hood, check all the connections to ensure they are tight and not corroded.
Note: Be careful while handling the battery as they contain lead and acid. Keep away from children and pets. Read the instruction manual of your car before starting the process.
